I am exhausted.
Other bloggers and advocates are exhausted.
The 61 million Americans who are currently documented as having a disability are exhausted.
I love educating others on topics of disability, I can only continue to do that with your help. If you’d like to support my intellectual labor, please consider using the button below to make a donation via Paypal.
We have all been shouting to an unresponsive wall for years and I, for one, am sick and tired of it.
So, I am doing something about it.
Introducing The Disability Power Movement!
*Website and social media coming soon*
What Is The Disability Power Movement?
The Disability Power Movement is dedicated to one thing: bringing widespread awareness to the plethora of issues the disabled community faces every single day. Essentially, it is a continuation of the work I have been doing on my blog for the past year. The only difference is, I am now trying to get more people to actively talk about and understand the topics I discuss daily.
This month, you can expect to see some fun additions to my website, including a resource guide, a new blog post series, and some fun new forms of content 😉.
In the future, I am picturing BIG things, but you’ll have to stick around and participate in the movement to find out what they are!
Why #DisabilityPower?
To many people, this hashtag probably reads like an oxymoron. The Disability Power Movement is all about changing that mindset.
I chose the title of #DisabilityPower in an effort to reclaim the words disabled and disability.
Disabled is not a bad word. It is not an insult nor is it a signal of inferiority. It is simply a descriptor of fact.
Similarly to how the iconic phrase, “Girl Power,” is used to amplify young female voices and help them feel empowered, #DisabilityPower is meant to be a unifying declaration of strength and merit.
Why Should YOU Care?
People with disabilities make up 15% of the world’s population. Here in the United States, that percentage is much higher (26% of adults). Yet, the disabled community is still on the margins of society, fighting each and every day for things like access to public transportation and marriage equality.
Disability is the only minority category you can be forced into overnight. Additionally, the older you get, the higher your chances of acquiring a disability become.
August Book of the Month Announcement!
Right now, you most likely know someone directly who has or is impacted by disability in some way. This means that someone in your contact list is probably struggling with the very issues The Disability Power Movement aims to set right.
Basically, you should care because these issues affect millions of people worldwide and could potentially impact YOU later on in life.
How Can I Get Involved Right Now?
First and foremost, you can Join my community!
